ISLAMABAD, Feb 04 (APP): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast mainly cold and dry weather across most parts of the country on Thursday, with very cold conditions expected in hilly regions during the night and early morning hours.
According to the PMD, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are likely over Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, while light rain or light snowfall may occur at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan.
In Islamabad and surrounding areas, cold and dry weather is expected to prevail, with partly cloudy conditions likely during the afternoon. Cold winds are also likely during daytime.
Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most districts will experience cold and dry weather, with very cold conditions in hilly areas at night and in the morning. Isolated light rain or snowfall may occur in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Bajaur, Orakzai, Parachinar, Bannu and Waziristan during the night.
In Punjab, cold and dry conditions are expected in most districts, while Murree, Galiyat and adjoining areas may experience very cold and partly cloudy weather. Shallow to moderate fog in patches is likely during early morning hours in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Narowal and Sialkot.
Sindh is expected to remain dry, with cold conditions during night and morning hours.
In Balochistan, most districts will see cold and dry weather, while cloudy conditions with light rain or snowfall are expected at isolated places in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin and surrounding areas.
The PMD said Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will continue to experience very cold weather with partly cloudy to cloudy conditions.
During the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, while very cold conditions were recorded in upper hilly areas.
However, rain and snowfall occurred at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.
The rainfall was recorded in Skardu and Babusar (6 mm each), Astore (1 mm), Garhidupatta (6 mm), Muzaffarabad (4 mm in city, 3 mm at airport), Rawalakot (3 mm), Kalam (3 mm) and Pattan (2 mm).
The snowfall was reported in Skardu (2.7 inches), Kalam (1.5 inches), while Murree and Astore received trace snowfall.
The lowest minimum temperature recorded was minus 11 C in Leh, followed by minus 06 C in Kalam and minus 05 C in Skardu and Astore.
Meanwhile, maximum temperatures are expected to reach 23 C in Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar, 30 C in Karachi, and 16 C in Quetta.
