LAHORE, Feb 04 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) enforcement teams, under the directions of Director General Asim Javaid, conducted a major operation in Shadab Colony, Jallo Morr, Mughalpura, and Tollinton Market, discarding 3,630 kilograms of sick and weak poultry, over one maund of milk, and unapproved sauces.
A milk shop was sealed and a case registered after its milk sample failed quality tests.
The operation included early morning inspections of 60,000 kilograms of poultry from 43 suppliers at Tollinton Market, along with sampling of four sauces available in the market.
DG Asim Javaid reported that the units inspected showed poor hygiene, infestation of insects, use of non-food grade baskets, improper machinery placement near washrooms, and unsafe food storage practices. Worker medical and training certificates were also missing, and unapproved sauces were confiscated. The discarded poultry was found suffering from flu and other diseases.
He warned that no concession will be given to traders supplying fake or substandard food. “Those deceiving consumers are enemies of the country, and their elimination is our top priority,” he said, adding that 90 percent milk traceability has been achieved in Punjab and the crackdown on fraudsters is ongoing.
He urged citizens to report any food-related complaints via the PFA helpline, 1223.
