KP Governor, New York Mayor agree to make Peshawar, New York sister cities

PESHAWAR, Feb 03 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi and the Mayor of New York have agreed to grant sister city status to Peshawar and New York, marking a significant step toward strengthening international municipal cooperation.
The Governor welcomed the approval of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet for declaring Peshawar and New York as sister cities, terming it a milestone in promoting people-to-people ties between Pakistan and the United States.
Following the cabinet’s approval, the New York Mayor’s Office has forwarded a draft agreement to the Governor House.
The Mayor’s Office described the partnership as a positive example of promoting urban cooperation at the global level and an important initiative to strengthen public-level relations between Pakistan and the United States.
Under the sister city arrangement, Peshawar and New York will cooperate in various fields including economy, education, youth skill development, scientific and technological activities, cultural exchanges, and reciprocal visits of high-level delegations. The partnership aims to open new avenues for collaboration and mutual learning between the two cities.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi reiterated his commitment to restoring Peshawar as a city of flowers and peace. He said that the sister city status would create new educational and technical opportunities for youth and improve access to employment in modern industries.
The Governor expressed confidence that this collaboration would play a vital role in empowering young people and contributing to the socio-economic development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
