LAHORE, Feb 03 (APP): Newly appointed Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Abdul Kareem on Tuesday formally assumed charge of his office and reaffirmed his commitment to public protection, transparent accountability and modern, IT-based policing.
On his arrival at the Central Police Office (CPO), he was presented a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out police contingent. Senior police officers welcomed him, after which the IGP paid tribute at the police martyrs’ memorial and offered Fateha for the departed souls.
Later, Rao Abdul Kareem held meetings with Additional IGs, DIGs and other senior officers and chaired an important session to review priorities.
Briefing media representatives, Rao Abdul Kareem said that in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, all ongoing projects would be completed at the earliest and further improved. He said maintaining law and order, protection of life and property, and selfless public service were his foremost priorities.
Rao stressed that public order would be maintained at all costs while ensuring a strong sense of security among citizens, adding that improvements in police station culture would be further strengthened.
The IGP said measures against terrorism and anti-state elements would be made more effective, while supremacy of the Constitution and complete enforcement of the law would be ensured. He reiterated that modern, IT-based policing would be promoted for effective crime control.
Rao Abdul Kareem said that all possible facilities and relief would continue to be provided to the families of police martyrs, while comprehensive steps would be taken for the welfare of police personnel and to boost the morale of the force.
Under the policy of “reward first, then punishment,” he said, transparent and impartial accountability would be ensured, while zero tolerance would be observed against non-professionalism. He asserted that only honest and dedicated officers would remain part of the team, and no leniency would be shown to black sheep within the department.
The IGP urged the media to continue highlighting crimes and social issues to help eliminate anti-social elements through timely and effective measures.
