Commissioner reviews renovation work in Commercial Market, Raja Bazaar

RAWALPINDI, Feb 03 (APP):Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak on Tuesday visited Commercial Market to review the pace and quality of ongoing renovation and beautification work under a major uplift project.
Assistant Commissioner City and Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi, accompanied the commissioner during the visit.
Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said both Commercial Market and Raja Bazaar were among Rawalpindi’s historic commercial centres and their renovation was being carried out on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to preserve their character while improving civic facilities.
He said undergrounding of utility lines of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Sui Gas and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) was in progress and directed the departments concerned to complete the work by February 20.
The commissioner said the project included construction of arch walls, improvement of front elevations and installation of tuff tiles. He said benches, streetlights, Victorian-style lights and planters were also being installed to enhance the area’s appearance.
He said the completion deadline for the project had been set as May 30, 2026, and directed that all development work be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The commissioner stressed that no compromise would be made on the quality of development work, adding that provision of improved facilities to citizens remained the government’s top priority.
He also directed the authorities concerned to ensure effective traffic management and maintain cleanliness in the area during the execution of the project.
