LAHORE, Feb 02 (APP): Commissioner Marryam Khan, chairing a meeting at her office on Monday, reviewed the safety arrangements at under-construction sites and excavation areas across the city ahead of Safe Basant.
The commissioner directed the district administration and departments concerned to ensure 100 percent safety compliance at construction sites, repair works, and excavation areas. She said that a special district-level team had been formed to oversee safety arrangements, adding that each department would be held responsible for its respective sites and would be required to issue safety certification. She warned that negligence would not be tolerated under the policy of zero tolerance.
Commissioner Marryam Khan directed departments including LDA, MCL, WASA, PTCL, Sui Gas, LESCO, and C&W to immediately complete safety measures. She instructed that professional teams from all departments should remain in the field and ensure completion of safety arrangements within two days. She also ordered geo-tagging of sites to ensure effective monitoring.
Addressing the meeting, the commissioner said that Safe Basant would be observed only within the limits of Lahore district for three days on February 6, 7, and 8, 2026. She clarified that kite flying was strictly prohibited in Lahore before February 6 and that the ban on kite flying remained in force until then.
She informed that a central Basant Control Centre had been established at the DC Office Lahore, where departments could seek guidance. All provincial and federal departments would remain on high alert during Basant, with round-the-clock duties and field deployment of teams.
Officials from all departments assigned Basant-related duties attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner announced that 2,276 sale points for kites and kite string had been approved across Lahore for Lahore Basant 2026. She said that the sale of kite-flying material at all approved points was strictly subject to NOC issuance and QR code verification. The commissioner clarified that sale points had been established in all areas of the city except the Red Zone of the Walled City. Citizens were advised to purchase only QR-coded kite-flying material to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
She said that quick response teams under the supervision of assistant commissioners were monitoring all sale points round the clock. She added that the Lahore administration remained fully active to ensure cleanliness, public awareness, and strict enforcement of safety measures.
She urged citizens to identify and report vendors operating without NOCs or QR codes, warning that immediate legal action would be taken against violators.
