RAWALPINDI, Feb 02 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid carried out surprise inspections at the Motorway Toll Plaza and across the Rawalpindi city on Monday morning to check milk quality, leading to strict action against adulteration.
During the operation, 2,700 litres of substandard milk prepared with powdered milk and vegetable oil were discarded. A PFA spokesman said inspections were conducted at milk shops on Sixth Road, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed Road and in the Sohan area, where four outlets were checked.
He said adulteration was confirmed at three milk shops, prompting the registration of cases and their immediate sealing. Over 80 kilograms of vegetable oil used for adulteration were also destroyed during the crackdown.
The spokesman said that under the supervision of the PFA director general, milk tankers were checked at the Motorway Toll Plaza, where 15,000 litres of milk carried by three vehicles were found to be in accordance with prescribed standards.
Speaking on the occasion, the PFA DG said adulteration in a basic food item like milk was unacceptable and warned that indiscriminate action would continue against those endangering public health. He urged citizens to report complaints through the food authority helpline 1223.
He added that food safety teams remained active across the province to ensure the supply of quality milk and that the inspection drive would continue without interruption.
