RAWALPINDI, Feb 02 (APP):The anti-polio vaccination drive officially commenced here on Monday and Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema formally inaugurated the campaign by administering polio drops to children at his office.
The opening ceremony was attended by the CEO Health, representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), and other concerned officers.
The deputy commissioner, while talking on the occasion said that eradicating polio is a national responsibility.
He emphasized that every possible effort is being made to reach every child.
He appealed to parents to fully cooperate with the polio teams and ensure that their children under five years of age receive the polio drops without fail.
“This is our utmost duty to protect children from lifelong disability”, he said.
The CEO Health briefed the participants that during the campaign, polio teams will go door-to-door to administer polio drops to children. Special teams have also been deployed at bus stands, railway stations, and other public places to ensure that children in transit are also covered.
The WHO report highlighted that community cooperation and continuous vaccination are extremely important for the complete eradication of polio. He stressed the need to further strengthen the performance of teams and the monitoring system during the campaign.
The district administration and Health Department have made a strong appeal to parents and the general public to ensure that their children under five years of age receive polio drops during the campaign and to extend full cooperation to the polio teams.
