World Bank President visits Julian Buddhist monastery, lauds KP government’s heritage conservation efforts

KHANPUR, Feb 01 (APP): World Bank President Ajay Banga on Sunday visited the historic Julian Buddhist Monastery and appreciated the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s initiatives for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.
He was accompanied by Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Member of the National Assembly Faisal Amin Gandapur, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advisor on Finance Muzammil Aslam.
During the visit, the World Bank president expressed satisfaction over the excellent condition of the archaeological site and commended the provincial government’s efforts, particularly under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development (KITE) project. He said tourism has the potential to generate employment opportunities and contribute significantly to sustainable economic growth in Pakistan.
Director General Archaeology and Museums, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Abdul Samad, briefed the delegation on the historical importance of the Julian Buddhist Monastery, ongoing conservation work, and future plans aimed at improving tourist facilities.
The delegation expressed satisfaction with the preservation measures and stressed the need for international cooperation to safeguard Pakistan’s cultural heritage and promote tourism.
