LAHORE, Jan 31 (APP): Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan conducted a field visit across four tehsils of Lahore District to review the Safe Basant awareness campaign and related safety measures.
The visits included Liberty Chowk, Charing Cross Chowk, Tajpura, and Suzo Park Chowk areas. DC Lahore Captain (retd) Ali Ijaz accompanied the Commissioner, and Assistant Commissioners provided briefings on the ongoing initiatives.
During the visits, Commissioner Lahore reviewed the operations of Basant Safety Camps, interacted with citizens, and distributed pamphlets outlining Basant safety laws and precautions. She also inspected the installation of safety rods on motorcycles.
Commissioner Marryam Khan stated that the use of circular, metallic, and nylon kites is strictly prohibited, and violators will face stringent action. She directed that the city’s 100 road safety camps should not only install safety rods but also raise awareness among every citizen regarding Basant regulations. She added that awareness campaigns are at their peak, and quick response teams comprising all departments under the district administration will remain active throughout the city.
The Commissioner urged citizens to play a responsible role in ensuring a safe Basant, cooperate with the administration, adhere to Basant regulations and the code of conduct, and report any violations. She highlighted that proper enforcement of Basant laws would ensure the safe celebration of this cultural festival.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner issued instructions regarding Safe Basant and building safety measures. She directed all Assistant Commissioners to form joint teams with XENs of Buildings to ensure proper implementation of safety measures. She instructed ACs to conduct inspections under public safety SOPs and issue certificates after verification. LESCO teams were directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply in all areas and remain deployed in the field according to the plan. LDA was asked to certify the safety measures of buildings in its respective areas.
She emphasized that the standards for building safety checks and Safe Basant measures should be uniform across all tehsils, and compliance with Basant regulations citywide must be 100 percent.
