Dera Ismail Khan , Jan 31 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formally notified the establishment of the District Committee on the Status of Women in Dera Ismail Khan, aiming to strengthen women’s rights and promote their welfare at the district level.
The committee has been constituted under Section 4(e) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (Amendment) Act, 2025. Humaira Nawaz has been appointed as Chairperson, while the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance and Planning) and the District Officer Social Welfare will serve as ex-officio members.
Other members include Iffat Parveen, Riffat Bibi, Salma Begum, Samia Bibi, Rizwana Naseem, Gulshan Masih, and Shafaq Zahra.
In a statement following the notification, Chairperson Humaira Nawaz said, “The formation of this committee is a significant step towards ensuring women’s rights and empowering them at the grassroots level. We are committed to addressing issues faced by women in the district and creating a platform for their welfare and development.”
The committee will operate according to the rules, regulations, and laws of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women, with a mandate to protect women’s rights, promote their socio-economic welfare, and resolve challenges faced by women in the district.
Local civil society and social circles have welcomed the move, describing it as a positive and timely initiative for women empowerment in Dera Ismail Khan.
