UCP lauds CM’s firm action over Lahore manhole tragedy

FAISALABAD, Jan 30 (APP):Chairman Ulema Council Pakistan (UCP) and Secretary General International Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Movement Pakistan Sahibzada Zahid Mahmood Qasmi has termed Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz’s serious notice of the tragic incident in Lahore , where a mother and her daughter lost their lives after falling into a manhole, as a true reflection of public sentiments.
During Juma sermon at Jamia Masjid Gol Faisalabad on Friday, he described the announcement of strict legal action against those responsible as a timely and commendable step. He said that action against the elements involved in criminal negligence in Lahore incident was most urgent need of the hour.
He said that continuous monitoring of the case, seeking reports at every stage and taking strict action against negligent officers demonstrated that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz embodied the values of public service, humanity and people-friendly governance nurtured by Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
He said the tragic death of a poor woman and her innocent daughter had shaken the society. The decisive and transparent action by the provincial government had reassured the public that human life was valued and protected, he added.
He emphasized that ensuring safety in public infrastructure was a fundamental responsibility of the state.
He demanded that Punjab government should ensure complete precautionary measures and safety protocols in all ongoing and future development projects across Lahore as well as entire province.
He paid rich tribute to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for providing justice to the affected family and bringing every responsible officer to the court of law. CM’s actions genuinely represented public aspirations and principles of accountability, he added.
