ISLAMABAD, Jan 30 (APP): The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) have agreed to collaborate on improving engineering standards in mega development projects, including Project Director (PD) Certification and the training of young engineers under the Graduate Engineers Trainee (GET) Placement Program.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between PEC Chairman Engineer Waseem Nazir and CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, focusing on joint measures to enhance transparency, quality, and efficiency in large-scale infrastructure projects.
Under the agreement, PEC and CDA will work together to strengthen engineering practices in ongoing and future mega projects.
The collaboration aims to ensure improved compliance with professional and technical standards, with emphasis on effective project management, accountability, and quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
As part of these initiatives, the Pakistan Engineering Council is set to launch a Project Director (PD) Certification Program. Engineers working on CDA’s mega projects will undergo PD certification, with the first batch scheduled to begin in March.
The certification program is aimed at improving transparency, governance, and construction quality by aligning engineering projects with international standards.
The meeting also reviewed progress on employment and capacity-building opportunities for young engineers. Under the CDA Graduate Engineers Trainee (GET) Placement Program, 100 graduate engineers will be provided training and practical exposure through participation in CDA’s mega projects.
The program is intended to equip newly graduated engineers with hands-on experience in large-scale development works.
PEC Chairman Engineer Waseem Nazir stated that providing practical experience to young engineers is a national requirement and that trained professionals are essential for the successful execution of mega projects. CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa termed the PD certification and young engineers’ training initiatives as commendable steps, noting that PEC’s cooperation would help improve the overall quality of engineering projects. CDA Member Engineering Engineer Nafisat Raza and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
