RAWALPINDI, Jan 30 (APP):Two wanted robbers were injured and arrested after they opened fire on a police team in the limits of the Taxila Police Station late on Thursday night, while two of their accomplices managed to escape.
According to a Rawalpindi Police spokesman, the incident occurred when the policemen attempted to stop the four motorcyclists. The suspects resorted to firing, prompting the personnel to retaliate in self-defence.
As a result of the exchange of fire, two robbers were arrested in an injured condition. They were identified as Zubair and Faheem alias Imran. A motorcycle snatched at gunpoint from a citizen a few days earlier, along with weapons, was recovered from their possession.
The spokesman said the arrested suspects were wanted in several cases of robbery, vehicle theft and illegal possession of arms registered in the twin cities.
On receiving information about the incident, senior police officers reached the spot along with additional police force, while a search operation was launched to arrest the fleeing suspects.
The injured robbers were shifted to hospital.
City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani appreciated Superintendent of Police, Potohar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Taxila, and the Taxila Police for bravely confronting the robbers, arresting the wanted suspects and recovering the snatched motorcycle.
He said those who attacked citizens or the police would not be allowed to evade the law.
