ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP):The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) on Thursday warned that intermittent rain and snowfall may hit Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 to 48 hours.
In a weather advisory, the NEOC said rainfall is likely in most districts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Pishin, Quetta and adjoining areas. Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are expected to receive rain, while snowfall is forecast in mountainous regions.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Astore, Diamer and Shigar may experience rain and snowfall.
The NDMA cautioned that snowfall could cause slippery road conditions in hilly areas, potentially disrupting traffic.
Travelers have been advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary movement in mountainous regions, and ensure vehicles are equipped with snow chains, extra fuel and other essential items if travel is unavoidable. The use of worn tyres has been strongly discouraged.
Provincial and district administrations have been directed to remain on alert and take precautionary measures in view of the prevailing weather conditions. The NEOC is ensuring advance dissemination of information on the evolving situation and providing necessary updates to relevant authorities.
