SARGODHA, Jan 29 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Thursday destroyed five acres of vegetables in Shalimar Town after confirming that the crops were irrigated with sewage water.
The operation was part of the authority’s “From Field to Plate” mission, which aims to ensure the safety of food for the public.
PFA spokesperson reported that an enforcement team, using tractors, uprooted crops of turnips, spinach and mustard greens.
These crops were found to be grown with contaminated waste water,a practice that was strictly prohibited by the PFA due to the health risks it poses.
The spokesperson emphasized that the use of sewage water for irrigation was a serious violation and can lead to the spread of various diseases.
PFA was committed to ensuring that food produced in the province was safe for consumption and such operations will continue as part of its efforts to protect public health.
Citizens were encouraged to report any food safety violations or illegal cultivation practices by calling the PFA helpline at 1223.
