Govt committed to strengthening social protection through digital reforms: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Jan 28 (APP):Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Syed Imran Ahmad Shah Wednesday said the government is committed to strengthening social protection systems through transparency, digital reforms and stronger coordination among welfare institutions to ensure timely relief to the country’s most vulnerable segments.
He expressed these views while chairing a high-level meeting to review the one-year performance of the Ministry’s ancillary organizations.
Senior officials from Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM), Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Trust for Voluntary Organizations (TVO) and Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) briefed the Minister on ongoing initiatives related to poverty graduation, climate resilience, social protection and other key areas.
The Minister appreciated the transparency, accountability and effective implementation mechanisms adopted by the institutions.
He particularly commended BISP Secretary Amir Ahmad Ali for the programme’s digital initiatives, terming the introduction of BISP Digital Wallets a significant step towards improved service delivery.
Syed Imran Ahmad Shah directed Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal to ensure that no negligence occurs in providing facilities to poor and deserving patients.
He further instructed that inter-institutional coordination and overall project performance be strengthened to ensure timely and effective assistance.
The meeting reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to accelerating efforts for poverty reduction, sustainable development and the protection of marginalized groups.
