LAHORE, Jan 28 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday sought replies from the federal government and other respondents on a petition seeking a ban on the use of social media by children below the age of 16.
LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum  heard the petition filed by Aalia Saleem, a 8th class student.
During the proceedings, Counsel for the petitioner argued that social media usage was causing serious harm to the mental, moral, and educational development of children. He submitted that several developed countries were also considering restrictions on social media use by underage children. The counsel pointed out that Australia imposed a ban on children’s social media usage in December 2025, while countries including France, Norway, Malaysia, and New Zealand were in the process of enacting relevant legislation.
He urged the court to issue directions for banning social media use by children under the age of 16.
At this, the chief justice observed that the matter was of significant importance and involved policy considerations, which primarily fall within the domain of the government.
Subsequently,  the court issued notices to the federal government and other respondents, seeking their responses, and adjourned further hearing of the case until February 10.
