ISLAMABAD, Jan 28 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police have confiscated more than 21,000 kites and kite strings and arrested 54 kite sellers and flyers during an intensified crackdown against the illegal activity across the federal capital in the ongoing month.
A police spokesperson told APP on Wednesday that various police teams carried out indiscriminate operations in different areas, resulting in the recovery of over 11,000 kites and more than 10,000 kite strings from the possession of the arrested accused. Cases have been registered against the suspects at relevant police stations, while further investigation is under way.
SSP Operations Islamabad Qazi Ali Raza said that kite flying and selling is a dangerous and unlawful practice that poses serious threats to human life, particularly to children, motorcyclists and pedestrians. He urged parents to educate their children about the hazards of kite flying and the legal consequences involved.
He added that awareness announcements regarding the dangers of kite selling and preventive measures are also being made in mosques within police station jurisdictions across the district to discourage the practice.
The SSP Qazi emphasized that kite flying can result in severe injuries, lifelong disability and even death, and warned that no leniency would be shown to those involved in this deadly activity. He said the crackdown against kite sellers and flyers would continue with full force.
He further stated that kite strings, especially chemical-coated strings, are extremely hazardous and any loss of innocent lives due to this activity would not be tolerated.
Reaffirming Islamabad Police’s resolve, SSP Operations Qazi said that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the foremost priority and all possible steps are being taken to ensure public safety across the federal capital.
