LAHORE, Jan 27 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday extended the interim bail of Saqib,
the prime accused in the Greece boat tragedy case, until February 12.
LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard the bail petition, during which counsel for
the complainant, Jamil, stated that Saqib was not nominated as an accused by
the complainants.
At this, the counsel representing the federal government informed the court that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had initiated proceedings on the complainants’ application, but they were now retracting from their earlier stance.
Expressing strong displeasure, Chief Justice Aalia Neelum remarked that efforts were being made to protect a cruel individual and questioned whether human life had any value. She observed that people often accuse institutions of not functioning properly, but stressed that the complainants themselves had filed the application and were now denying it.
The chief justice further remarked that those portraying the complainants as simple people were mistaken, adding that the country could not improve unless people came forward and spoke the truth.
The court directed all complainants to appear before the Special Central Court on Wednesday at 12 noon to verify their statements. It also ordered forensic verification of their thumb impressions, warning that legal action would be initiated against the complainants for submitting false statements if it was proven that they had earlier filed the application.
