CPNE holds Seminar on Media Conflicts and their Resolution

ISLAMABAD, Jan 25 (APP): The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) organized a seminar titled “Media Conflicts and their Resolution” to address internal divisions within the journalistis community, to counter the disinformation, misinformation campaigns, and challenges facing media professionalism and fake news. The seminar was moderated by senior journalist and Director CPNE( USA) Farooq Mirza, while, CPNE Chairman Khushnood Ali Khan presided over the session,said in a Press release issued here on Sunday.
Speakers highlighted severe financial hardships faced by journalists, factionalism in press clubs, external interference, and organized fake news campaigns.
On this occasion, Proposals included establishing an “internal arbitration council “to resolve disputes through dialogue.
Renowned journalist Khushnood Ali Khan termed journalism a profession in deep crisis, lamenting poverty, loss of dignity, restrictions on media freedom, and extreme rhetoric on social media. He urged journalists to unite and support constructive, ethical initiatives.
Farooq Mirza proposed a jirga-style arbitration system, beginning in Islamabad with a diverse 15–20 member panel.
He Said that fake membership in press clubs, warned of foreign and Indian networks influencing Pakistani media, and emphasized “Pakistan First,” balanced reporting, and broader coverage beyond politics.
Senior Journalist Adil Shah has saud that journalists should show their unity to counter the fake narrative and said that media should play its role to resolve the issues among journalists and stakeholders.
Retired Brigadier Azam Effendi discussed modern information warfare and recommended grassroots conflict-resolution mechanisms. Other speakers, including Mujahid Bhatti, Farhat Fatima, and Shahzad Anwar Farooqui, stressed unity, ethical journalism, training workshops, resistance to fake news, and safeguarding national interests.
