New York, Jan 25 (APP):New York State Senator Jessica Ramos visited the office of the Overseas Pakistan Global Foundation (OPGF) and a community centre in Jackson Heights, Queens, where she recognized the foundation’s work for the Pakistani community in the United States.
Accompanied by Sheikh Shakil, she met community members, volunteers and representatives of OPGF during the visit.
Senator Ramos praised the role of OPGF in supporting immigrants and addressing local needs through community-based initiatives.
She acknowledged the leadership of OPGF Chairman Zahir Akthar Ahmad Maher for his continued efforts in community service and welfare activities. She said organizations like OPGF help connect immigrant communities with public institutions and ensure that their concerns reach decision-makers.
During the visit, the OPGF representatives briefed the Senator on the Foundation’s programs. These include support for newly arrived immigrants, assistance for low-income families and guidance on civic awareness. The Foundation also runs initiatives focused on education, social inclusion and community engagement across different neighborhoods of Queens.
Senator Ramos said Jackson Heights is home to people from many backgrounds and cultures. She noted that active community organizations play an important role in building understanding, cooperation, and participation at the local level. She said such efforts help strengthen ties between residents and public offices.
In recognition of his services, Senator Ramos presented an appreciation certificate to OPGF Chairman Zahir Akthar Ahmad Maher. The certificate acknowledged his contribution to community welfare and humanitarian work, as well as his commitment to improving the lives of Pakistani-Americans in New York.
Speaking at the event, Senator Ramos said the work of OPGF reflects the purpose of public service. She appreciated the foundation’s focus on inclusion and support for people in need. Chairman OPGF Zahir Akthar Ahmad Maher thanked Senator Ramos for visiting the OPGF office and community centre. He expressed gratitude for the senator’s support and said the foundation would continue serving communities in the United States and the European Union.
