Federal Ombudsman serving as strong shield against public maladministration

ISLAMABAD, Jan 23 (APP):Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi has said that the institution of the Federal Ombudsman serves as a strong shield against maladministration in government departments.
He stated that on January 24, 2026, the Federal Ombudsman completed 43 years of its establishment. Over the decades, the institution has played a key role in promoting transparency and in building a governance system free from maladministration in Pakistan,said in a Press release issued here on Friday.
The Federal Ombudsman noted that due to the institution’s interventions, maladministration has not only been curbed but the performance of government departments has also improved. He added that the initiatives of the Federal Ombudsman are an important part of the national agenda for promoting transparency and accountability.
Since its establishment, the Federal Ombudsman has provided justice to approximately 2.6 million citizens, resulting in indirect relief to 2.6 million families across the country.
During the year 2025, the Federal Ombudsman decided 261,101 complaints, with 96.8 percent of the decisions fully implemented. Furthermore, 91 percent of the complaints were resolved within the prescribed period of 60 days.
The Federal Ombudsman also resolved 137,152 complaints of overseas Pakistanis during 2025. Through 166 Open Katcheries and 232 OCR (Outreach Complaint Resolution) programs, thousands of complainants were provided justice at their doorsteps.
Under the Informal Resolution of Disputes (IRD) program, 7,356 complaints were resolved amicably. Overall, more than 400,000 complainants were granted relief during 2025.
The Federal Ombudsman issued decisions amounting to Rs. 10.2 billion in free relief during the year.
The Federal Ombudsman functions as a people’s court for resolving complaints against federal government institutions and for improving governance. Separate Commissioners are working within the institution to address complaints of overseas Pakistanis and children.
Any citizen can file a complaint with the Federal Ombudsman against maladministration in federal government departments. Complaints are decided within 60 days, without any fee and without the need for a lawyer.

Complaints can also be submitted from home through post, email, mobile application, or online platforms.
