SEOUL, Jan 23 (YONHAP/APP): Trade officials of South Korea and Indonesia discussed expanding cooperation between the two countries to create a favorable environment for investment by private companies, Seoul’s trade ministry said Friday.

Vice Trade Minister Park Jung-sung met with his Indonesian counterpart, Ali Murtopo Simbolon, in Seoul to explore ways to expand economic cooperation and address difficulties faced by Korean companies investing in the Southeast Asian nation, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.

In the meeting, Park asked the Indonesian government to make efforts to resolve issues related to the country’s revision of its national standard for products and services, called Standard National Indonesia (SNI), affecting Korean companies exporting or operating in Indonesia.

Seoul has repeatedly raised issues with Indonesia’s SNI revision as Korean companies have been facing challenges in obtaining SNI certification in a timely manner.

He also called for a swift resolution of issues related to the two countries’ cooperation for Indonesia’s hydropower project.

The ministry said the two sides acknowledged Korean companies’ contribution to Indonesia’s economy and the need to create a more favorable environment for corporate investment.

To this end, the two sides agreed to push for the resumption of bilateral economic cooperation committee meetings, it added.
