ISLAMABAD, Jan 22 (APP):The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan has suspended a Sindh High Court judgment in a significant case concerning job quota for the children of deceased government employees.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Aamir Farooq issued a stay order on the Sindh High Court’s decision after a preliminary hearing on an appeal filed by the Sindh government. The court also issued notices to all relevant parties.
During the hearing, Justice Aamir Farooq observed that a Supreme Court of Pakistan ruling from 2024 was not applied retrospectively but was limited to a specific legal scope.
Counsel for the Sindh government argued that the Sindh High Court had incorrectly interpreted the Supreme Court’s verdict by stating that it would not apply to future cases or pending matters. The lawyer maintained that the apex court’s decision had, in fact, granted legal protection to past rulings and previously settled cases.
After hearing the arguments, the Federal Constitutional Court suspended the Sindh High Court’s ruling and indicated that a new date would soon be fixed for further proceedings in the case.
