LAHORE, Jan 21 (APP):A local court on Wednesday sought arguments from the parties on an application filed by Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari, seeking permission to record her statement through a video link in a case concerning the alleged circulation of a fake video attributed to her.
Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Naeem Watto presided over the proceedings. During the hearing, Azma Bokhari’s counsel, Ali Bokhari, submitted an application stating that the provincial minister faces security threats, making her physical appearance in court impractical. He further argued that her key responsibilities as a cabinet member also limit her availability to appear in person.
The application requested the court to allow the recording of Azma Bokhari’s statement via video link, assuring her full cooperation with the judicial process while taking into account security concerns.
After hearing the initial submissions, the court sought arguments from both sides at the next hearing and adjourned the matter until January 27.
It is noteworthy that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has already registered a case over the circulation of the alleged fake video. Falak Javed, Atiq Riaz, and others have been nominated as accused in the case.
Earlier, the court had directed Azma Bokhari to appear in person for the recording of her statement. However, through the latest application, the court has been urged to permit the recording of her statement through a video link.
