189 terrorists killed in operations in DI Khan during 2025

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jan 21 (APP):The Dera Ismail Khan Range Police killed 189 terrorists in over 550 search-and-strike and intelligence-based operations carried out across the region during 2025, marking a major success in the fight against terrorism and serious crime.
The details were shared by police spokesman in the Annual Performance Report 2025, issued here on Wednesday. The report highlights the overall performance of Dera Range Police under the leadership of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera, Syed Ashfaq Anwar, with significant achievements in counterterrorism, crime control, police welfare, and infrastructure development.
According to the report, police conducted 336 search-and-strike operations and 215 intelligence-based operations during the year. During these actions, 189 terrorists were neutralized while 74 others were arrested for their involvement in terrorism, target killings, and planning subversive activities. In addition, 1,549 proclaimed offenders wanted in serious criminal cases were apprehended.
The police also recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including 74 Kalashnikovs, 119 rifles, 160 shotguns, 1,226 pistols, nine hand grenades, 36 knives, and over 128,000 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.
The report further states that Dera Range Police intensified their crackdown on narcotics, resulting in the recovery of 858 kilograms of hashish, 94 kilograms of heroin, two kilograms of opium, 170 kilograms of ice, and 1,286 liters of liquor. A total of 1,192 cases were registered under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act, leading to the arrest of drug traffickers and dealers across the region.
Major progress was also made in police welfare and internal accountability. Twenty-three orderly rooms were held at the RPO Office to address issues faced by police personnel, with 379 officials participating. Following the completion of departmental inquiries, 118 officials were reinstated into service. To boost morale, the RPO personally visited remote police stations and check posts in Dera Ismail Khan and Tank districts, where police personnel were awarded cash prizes and commendation certificates for their performance against terrorist threats.
One of the most significant incidents of the year was the attack on the Police Training School in Dera Ismail Khan on October 11, 2025. The report notes that RPO Syed Ashfaq Anwar personally led the operation, resulting in the killing of four terrorists, including a suicide bomber, while all trainees were rescued safely. The successful operation received appreciation at both provincial and national levels.
To enhance public safety, comprehensive security arrangements were implemented on the CPEC Motorway (M-14). New police posts were established at sensitive points, significantly strengthening motorway security. Additionally, efforts to expand policing capacity led to the approval of 350 new posts for Dera Ismail Khan district and 120 for Tank district.
The report also highlights the launch of Safe City projects in Dera Ismail Khan and Tank districts to improve surveillance and emergency response.
Alongside this, extensive infrastructure development work has been undertaken, including the construction and renovation of police stations and check posts. Work on approved projects has already begun in Dera Ismail Khan, with implementation in other districts expected soon.
Merit-based promotions were also carried out to address long-standing grievances within the force. As a result, 28 head constables were promoted to assistant sub-inspectors, while 23 ASIs were elevated to the rank of sub-inspector.
