ISLAMABAD, Jan 20 (APP):The Senate Secretariat on Tuesday formally notified the appointment of Senator Raja Nasir Abbas as Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, with immediate effect.
“In pursuance of sub-rule (3) of Rule 16 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate, 2012, the chairman Senate has been pleased to declare Senator Raja Nasir Abbas as leader of the opposition in the Senate, with immediate effect,” said a notification issued here.
Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that the office of the Leader of the Opposition had earlier fallen vacant following a notification issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan on August 5, 2025, and a consequential notification of the Senate Secretariat dated August 8, 2025.
He said that Senator Raja Nasir Abbas had secured the support of 22 opposition members out of total 32.
