Current Account records over $ 1.1 billion deficit during 1st half of FY26

KARACHI, Jan 19 (APP):Pakistan’s External Current Account Balance recorded a deficit of US$ 1,174 million during the first half of fiscal year 2025-26 in comparison to a surplus of $957 million during July-December 2024-25.
Current Account Balance, in the month of December 2025, recorded a deficit of $ 244 million compared to a surplus of
$ 98 million in November 2025 and $ 454 million surplus in December 2024, the State Bank of Pakistan reported on Monday in the monthly summary of Balance of Payments.
The cumulative balance in trade of goods during July-December 2025-26, according to the provisional figures released by the central bank, recorded a deficit of $ 15,818 million as compared to $ 11,583 million deficit in corresponding period of FY24-25.
The balance on Trade in goods during December 2025 was recorded as $ 2,986 million as compared to a deficit of $ 2,439 million in November 2025 and $ 1,784 million in December 2024, the data depicted.
Balance on trade of services in the first half of FY26 has recorded a deficit of $ 1,738 million as compared to $ 1,530
million deficit of July-December FY25, the data shown adding that in December 2025 services’ trade deficit was recorded as $ 370 million as compared to $ 168 million deficit in November 2025 and $ 250 million deficit during December 2024.
The overall trade deficit in both goods and services reached at $ 17,556 million during Jul-Dec FY26 in comparison to the deficit of $ 13,113 million in the first 6 months of the previous fiscal year. In December 2025, the overall deficit in trade of goods and services was recorded as $ 3,356 million as compared to the deficit of $ 2,607 million in November 2025 and the deficit of $ 2,034 million during December 2024.
The Balance on Primary Income recorded a deficit of $ 4,617 million during July-December FY26 against a deficit of $ 4,769 million in the corresponding months of last fiscal year, the SBP data showed.
The inflow of workers’ remittances from overseas during the first half of FY26, has recorded as $ 19,733 million in comparison to $ 17,847 million inflows in corresponding period of FY25.
Meanwhile, the Balance on Secondary Income during July-December FY26 has recorded a surplus of $ 20,999 million as compared to a surplus of $ 18,839 million in the first six months of the previous fiscal year, the SBP data showed.
