ISLAMABAD, Jan 19 (APP):The District & Sessions Court of Islamabad on Monday fixed multiple deadlines in the controversial tweet case involving Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha, expressing concern over the failure to arrest the accused and directing law enforcement agencies to act without delay.
The case was heard by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka. The proceedings focused on the non-execution of arrest warrants issued against Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha in connection with a disputed post shared on social media.
During the hearing, the court noted that despite the passage of time, the accused had not been arrested. Judge Majoka showed displeasure over the situation and directed the investigating authorities to take immediate steps. He instructed officials to obtain house search warrants from the relevant magistrate if required. The judge ordered that the accused be arrested and produced before the court by 11:00 am, after which the hearing was temporarily adjourned until that time.
Officials from the National Cyber Crime Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency, along with police officers and special prosecutors, appeared before the court. They informed the judge that the arrest warrants had not yet been executed. The officials sought more time to submit a report explaining the reasons for the delay.
Judge Majoka directed the FIA and police to submit a detailed report regarding the execution of warrants by 2:00 pm. He warned that action would be taken against any officer whose report was found unsatisfactory. The court then adjourned the hearing until 2:00 pm.
Later, the hearing was again taken up at the District and Sessions Courts Islamabad. The court was informed by the prosecutor that the accused had obtained protective bail from the Islamabad High Court and were directed to appear there the following day. On this, Judge Majoka ordered that after appearing before the High Court, the accused must present themselves before his court within one hour.
Counsel for the accused requested that the hearing be adjourned until the day after next. The judge rejected the request, stating that no undue benefit would be allowed. He made it clear that no concession would be granted in the matter.
The court further ordered that the accused must appear before the same court and that their statements under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code would be recorded there. The hearing of the controversial tweet case was adjourned until the next day, with clear instructions issued to both the accused and the investigating agencies to ensure compliance with court orders.
