ISLAMABAD, Jan 18 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police confiscated 3,172 kites and a large quantity of hazardous chemical string and arrested two accused, including an Afghan national, during an operation against illegal kite-selling in the federal capital.
A police spokesperson told APP on Sunday that Islamabad Police are continuing indiscriminate operations to curb kite flying and the sale of deadly chemical string, which poses a serious threat to public safety.
According to the spokesperson, a team of Lohi Bher Police Station intercepted and searched a passenger bus travelling from Peshawar to Gujranwala. During the search, police recovered more than 2,700 kites, 472 spools of different types of chemical string, and other related materials used for kite flying.
He said two suspects were taken into custody on the spot, including one foreign national, and a case has been registered against them. Further investigation is under way to identify other individuals involved in the illegal supply and distribution network.
SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza said that kite flying is a banned and life-threatening activity, while chemical string has repeatedly caused fatal injuries to children, motorcyclists and pedestrians.
He urged parents to strictly discourage their children from kite flying and the use of chemical string, stressing that collective responsibility is essential to prevent tragic incidents.
The SSP Qazi added that Islamabad Police, with the cooperation of citizens, are utilising all available resources to make the federal capital safe and peaceful, and strict action against violators of the law will continue without discrimination.
