ISLAMABAD, Jan 18 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police arrested two armed dacoits in an injured condition after an exchange of fire during a checking operation in the Sangjani area of the federal capital.
A police spokesperson told APP on Sunday that the incident occurred when a police team set up a checkpoint in the Sangjani police station limits and attempted to stop suspicious individuals. Instead of complying, four armed dacoits riding on two motorcycles tried to flee the scene.
The spokesperson said the police team showed courage and professionalism and chased the suspects. On seeing the police closing in, the dacoits opened indiscriminate fire on the police party. However, due to timely precautions and the use of bulletproof jackets, police officials remained safe.
During the exchange of fire, two of the dacoits were hit by bullets fired by their own accomplices and were later found injured in a nearby jungle area. The injured suspects were identified as Wajid and Samiullah, who were immediately taken into custody and shifted to hospital for medical treatment.
Police recovered three snatched mobile phones, two motorcycles and Rs 65,000 in cash from the possession of the arrested dacoits. Two pistols along with ammunition, used in multiple criminal activities, were also recovered.
According to police records, the arrested dacoits were wanted by Islamabad Police in several cases of serious crimes, including dacoity and robbery. The firing by the suspects also caused damage to a government vehicle, which was hit from multiple directions.
The spokesperson added that the remaining accomplices managed to escape by taking advantage of darkness. A search operation has been launched in the area to trace and arrest the fleeing dacoits.
