ISLAMABAD, Jan 17 (APP):Chief Executive Officer of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) Dr. Obaidullah Saturday shared his confidence in advancing international collaborations to establish local vaccine manufacturing, pointing out that reforms within the department have significantly sped up procedures, turning years-long tasks into those that are now completed within
days.
While speaking to a local media channel, Dr. Obaidullah, CEO of DRAP highlighted the transformative impact of the digitalization of DRAP’ s systems, adding, new digital approach has significantly sped up the licensing and approval processes, making them faster more efficient and streamlined, which previously took years to complete.
Dr. Obaidullah also expressed his gratitude for the government’s support and appreciation, acknowledging that their backing played a crucial role in DRAP’ s achievements.
He proudly mentioned that DRAP’ s efforts had earned them the “Reform Champion” award, further recognizing the authority’s commitment to improving regulatory processes and services.
He claimed that DRAP is now able to provide better access to quality medicines, and the time lines for approval have drastically improved, eliminating the delays that were once a major issue, adding, this shift has enhanced the overall efficiency of the department, ensuring timely availability of critical medicines for the public.
Responding to a query about local vaccine manufacturing, Dr. Obaidullah stated that the quality of vaccine components in Pakistan is improving, and efforts are underway to further reduce any existing gaps.
He emphasized that through collaboration with provincial and international governments, the country is moving closer to developing its own local vaccine manufacturing capacity. This partnership aims to strengthen the vaccine supply chain and ensure greater self-reliance in healthcare.
