SUKKUR, Jan 17 (APP):A monitoring team from the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) Sukkur, led by Regional Incharge Imran Abbasi on Saturday conducted an environmental inspection of sugar industries in the Sukkur region. The inspection aimed to assess compliance with environmental laws and standards.
The team, accompanied by officials from SEPA and the District Incharge of Sindh EPA Khairpur Mirs, visited the Rani Pur Sugar Mill in Khairpur district. The inspection was carried out in the presence of a SEPA-approved third party environmental laboratory.
During the visit, various environmental activities were performed, including air quality monitoring, noise level assessment, and sampling of effluent treatment plant (ETP) wastewater. The team observed that the ETP was operational, and wastewater samples were collected for analysis.
The mill administration was directed to install flow meters and pH meters at the ETP inlet and outlet. The team also inspected the ash disposal site and instructed the mill to ensure proper soil filling to prevent ash dispersion.
Abbasi stated that SEPA Sukkur is committed to environmental protection and regularly monitors industries in the region. He added that sugar mills have installed ETPs and taken measures to control emissions and safely dispose of ash and sludge.
