ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (APP):British High Commissioner Thomas Drew has encouraged the journalists from across Pakistan to apply for the UK Government’s prestigious Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme (SAJP) Fellowship, for which the last date to apply is October 10.
The Chevening SAJP is aimed at mid-career journalists from Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bangladesh, a British High Commission statement Monday said.
High Commissioner Drew said the Chevening SAJP fellowship was designed specifically for journalists across South Asia to experience the very best of UK media and to share their experiences with each other.
He termed the programme a life-changing experience and encouraged Pakistani journalists to apply well in time.
The programme is funded by the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The fellows will undertake a bespoke fellowship programme titled ‘Good Governance in a Changing World: the Media, Politics and Society.
The fellows will participate in eight intensive weeks of lectures, visits, and discussions that introduce them to key UK academics, media, and political figures in the field. They will also spend time meeting their peers in some of the UK’s top media organizations, as well as running a symposium on a topic of their choice in the final week.
According to the High Commission’s statement, the next fellowship commences in March 2019 and is delivered at the University of Westminster. Applications can be submitted online at www.chevening.org/programme/south-asia-journalism
In Pakistan, over 40 fellows have been awarded the Chevening SAJP fellowship since its inception in 2012. There are over 50,000 Chevening Alumni around the world who comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.
