ISLAMABAD, Jan 16 (APP):Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Friday apprised the Senate that the Universal Service Fund (USF) continues to expand telecom facilities in remote regions of the country.
Responding to various questions during Question Hour, the minister said that temporary internet and mobile service suspensions in some areas were imposed solely due to security concerns. “These suspensions are very limited and strictly in the national interest,” he said, adding that the government had already ensured that data packages would not expire during such suspensions.
Regarding telecom issues at Parliament Lodges, the minister said that a survey was already under way. “If any block or area has weak service, we will verify it.
The minister said that telecom services were being provided nationwide without political bias. “It is not the case that areas of our own party receive better signals while opposition areas are ignored. All complaints are equally important for us,”  he said.
