ULAN BATOR, Jan. 14 (Xinhua/APP): Mongolia has attracted a total of 21,066 foreign tourists since the beginning of 2026, according to official data released by the Mongolian Tourism Organization on Wednesday.

During the period, Russia, China and South Korea have remained the leading sources of foreign tourists to Mongolia, the data showed.

Currently, Mongolia’s economy relies most heavily on the export of mineral resources. Tourism promotion is considered one of the priorities for diversifying the country’s economy and increasing the competitiveness of its tourism in the context of global competition.

Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining an open and tourism-friendly policy, the Mongolian authorities have decided to continue the “Years to Visit Mongolia” tourism program until 2028 to promote its tourism.

The Mongolian government has recently extended its visa-free access for tourists from 34 countries until the end of 2026.

According to the Mongolian Tourism Organization, the landlocked Asian country recorded nearly 850,000 inbound tourist visits by foreign passport holders in 2025.
