ISLAMABAD, Jan 13 (APP):Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Spokesperson Imran Ghaznavi on Tuesday highlighted that the law targeting substandard LPG cylinder sales is nearly finalized, warning that violators will face severe fines and legal
consequences.
Talking to a local news channel, he explained that the Ministry of Law, following approval by Parliament, will implement a strict law against the sale of substandard LPG cylinders, adding, the new regulations will ensure that heavy fines and legal action are imposed on all violators, aiming to curb unsafe practices that put public safety at
risk.
He noted that previously, some sellers would simply pay fines and resume illegal practices once the penalties were cleared, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement and more effective deterrents.
Under the new law, authorities will have the power to seal factories and take immediate action against offenders, ensuring that substandard cylinders do not re-enter the market, he added.
The spokesperson emphasized that these measures are designed to protect consumers and reinforce accountability across the LPG supply chain, making it clear that compromising human safety for profit will no longer be
tolerated.
Responding a query, spokesperson OGRA explained appropriate safety measures will be implemented, adding that they remain in continuous contact with district and provincial administrations to ensure coordinated
action.
He emphasized that all relevant authorities are working together to prevent accidents and maintain public safety.
He further explained that OGRA, as the technical regulatory authority, is contacted for detailed investigations, with their teams receiving ongoing updates and information from his department regarding any LPG cylinder related
incidents.
This coordination ensures thorough monitoring and prompt response to any safety breaches, he mentioned.
Responding to another query, he stated that lenient punishments, the sale of substandard cylinders and unsafe gas refilling practices are the main causes of such incidents.
He emphasized that without strict enforcement, these hazardous practices continue to put public safety at serious risk.
He further highlighted that the new regulations and coordinated efforts with district, provincial and technical authorities like OGRA aim to address these issues effectively, ensuring that offenders face strict penalties and preventive measures are properly implemented.
