Crimes dip 48pc as ICT Police arrest 586 suspects, recover Rs 39.7 mln in 10 days

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police recorded a 48 percent reduction in crimes compared to the same period last year, as the force carried out major operations during the first 10 days of 2026 and arrested 586 suspects, recovering Rs 39.7 million worth of stolen property.
A police spokesperson told APP on Tuesday that ICT Police intensified action against criminal elements on the special directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, resulting in significant breakthroughs across multiple categories of crime.
According to the spokesperson, police teams busted 11 organised criminal gangs, arresting 27 members, and recovered 7 vehicles, 17 motorcycles, and a large quantity of snatched mobile phones, cash and valuables.
He added that police also arrested 187 proclaimed offenders and previously convicted criminals during intelligence-based actions, while three cases were registered during targeted operations against land-grabbers.
Under the campaign “Weapon-Free Islamabad,” police arrested 72 suspects and seized 9 rifles, 3 shotguns, 52 pistols, 4 daggers, and 526 rounds for illegal possession and displaying weapons.
As part of the anti-narcotics campaign “Nasha Ab Nahi,” police registered 51 cases, arrested 53 drug dealers, and recovered 9 kg charas, 8 kg heroin, over 4 kg ice, and 225 bottles of liquor.
To address public grievances, Islamabad Police conducted more than 32 Khuli Kachehris, while actions against professional beggars led to 61 arrests. More than 53 search and combing operations were also carried out in different areas to strengthen security.
SSP Operations  Qazi Ali Raza said that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the top priority of ICT Police. He added that the year 2026 has been declared a “Public Service Delivery Year,” and police are committed to ensuring timely and fair justice for all citizens.
He further stated that all police offices remain open 24 hours to facilitate the public, and ICT Police will continue its efforts to maintain peace, improve service delivery and strengthen public trust.
