Aleppo, Jan 13 (SANA/APP): Several Aleppo neighborhoods witnessed intensive operations Monday to remove earth berms and reopen main roads that had been closed for years, as part of a wider plan to facilitate civilian movement and help restore normal life to areas liberated from the SDF organization in northern Syria.
The works, overseen by the Aleppo Governorate in coordination with service and security agencies, focused on the Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh and Bani Zaid neighborhoods, as well as the Lairamoun industrial zone.
Ammar Abdulrahman, director of the Aleppo Civil Defense Center, said in remarks to a SANA correspondent on Monday that the campaign targets reopening roads previously closed due to the presence of the SDF organization. He said the effort includes Bani Zaid, Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud, in addition to the Lairamoun factories area stretching between Lairamoun Roundabout and Sheihan Roundabout, where a large industrial cluster is concentrated.
For his part, Abdul Razzaq Saleh al-Hajji, a technical official at the Aleppo Provincial Council, said in remarks to SANA on Monday that the council’s entry into the neighborhoods came after they were liberated by the Ministry of Defense and secured by Internal Security Forces through the dismantling of landmines and unexploded ordnance.
He added that the council deployed a large service fleet — including bulldozers, dump trucks, emergency cranes and service vehicles — to remove rubble, reopen roads and clear waste, alongside a comprehensive cleaning campaign in Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, Bani Zaid and al-Shaqif. The works are part of the governorate’s plan to rehabilitate roads and ensure a safe and stable return for residents, he said.
Officials said reopening roads and removing berms goes beyond service delivery, marking a step toward ending years of isolation, reactivating economic movement by reviving the Lairamoun industrial area, and strengthening social connectivity across the city, as Aleppo moves toward broader recovery and reconstruction.
Earlier Monday, the Aleppo Central Response Committee held a coordination meeting at the Aleppo Governorate building to discuss accelerating residents’ return to their homes in Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud.
