RAWALPINDI, Jan 10 (APP):In line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure the provision of quality basic amenities for citizens and tourists, the Punjab government has announced the formal establishment of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Murree and the launch of mobile water vans to provide free-of-cost clean drinking water to tourists.
The announcement was made by Provincial Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Bilal Yasin during his visit to Murree.
The minister said that the chief minister had issued clear instructions that no negligence would be tolerated in providing basic facilities to the public and tourists.
He said that establishing an efficient system for clean drinking water supply and sewerage in a major tourist destination like Murree was among the Punjab government’s top priorities.
During the visit, Bilal Yasin formally inaugurated the WASA Murree office.
He said the establishment of WASA Murree was a practical manifestation of the chief minister’s vision, aimed at ensuring the provision of clean drinking water and developing a modern and sustainable sewerage and drainage system in the hill resort.
He said that with WASA Murree becoming operational, there would be a marked improvement in civic services, while the service delivery mechanism would be made more transparent and effective.
The minister said that the launch of mobile water vans to provide free clean drinking water to tourists was an important initiative, which would not only facilitate visitors but also help promote a positive image of Murree.
During the visit, officers of the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Murree and the Public Health Engineering Department briefed the minister on ongoing and proposed development projects in Murree.
Member of the National Assembly MNA Raja Usama Ashfaq Sarwar, Director General Punjab WASA Tayyab Fareed, Additional Commissioner Revenue Umar Kiani and Managing Director, PHA, Ahmed Hassan Ranjha were also present on the occasion.
Managing Director WASA Murree Azim Shaukat Awan, while giving a briefing, said that under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the establishment of WASA Murree would bring long-term and fundamental improvements in the provision of clean drinking water and the sewerage system.
He also shared details of ongoing projects and proposed future schemes.
The provincial housing minister directed the concerned officers to complete all development projects in Murree on a priority basis in line with the chief minister’s vision and ensure the provision of maximum facilities for citizens as well as tourists.
