PESHAWAR, Jan 09 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan on Friday chaired a high-level meeting with officials from the Excise Department and representatives of the private rehabilitation organization “The Haq Awaz” to plan a coordinated effort for the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts across the province.
The meeting, held at the Directorate General Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control in Hayatabad, Peshawar, was attended by Secretary Khalid Ilyas, senior departmental officers, Anti-Narcotics Wing officials, and members of the rehabilitation organization.
Officials discussed strategies to help drug addicts reintegrate into society as responsible and productive citizens.
It was agreed that the Excise Department would refer addicts from Peshawar and other districts to “The Haq Awaz”, where they will receive structured medical treatment and rehabilitation services.
As part of the initial phase, 100 individuals will receive free treatment and rehabilitation, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the department and the organization will soon formalize the collaboration.
Minister Syed Fakhar Jehan described the initiative as a “major humanitarian effort”, highlighting the government’s commitment to social welfare and public service.
He praised the organization for supporting the department’s objectives and emphasized that post-rehabilitation monitoring will be implemented to prevent relapses and protect recovering individuals from negative influences.
