RAWALPINDI, Jan 06 (APP):Special Assistant to the Punjab Chief Minister for Food Salma Butt on Tuesday directed the Murree district administration to implement stricter field monitoring of commodity prices to ensure direct relief for citizens.
She was chairing a meeting at the District Complex to review measures ensuring the availability of essential commodities at fixed prices and strengthen the district’s price control system.
The session examined price determination for essential commodities, continuous market monitoring, and enforcement of official price lists. Discussions also focused on controlling inflation, preventing hoarding, and curbing unfair profiteering.
Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi briefed the participants on the current price control system, ongoing administrative measures, challenges faced, and prospects for improvement. He said the district administration was conducting daily market inspections through price control magistrates to protect public interest.
He added that the prominent display of official price lists, prompt resolution of public complaints, and impartial action against violators remained top priorities. All available resources were being utilised to provide relief, and no one would be allowed to engage in unfair profiteering.
The meeting also reviewed the performance of price control magistrates, complaint handling, fines, arrests, and other legal measures.
Salma Butt appreciated the district administration’s efforts and emphasised that stricter monitoring and enforcement were essential to deliver tangible relief to citizens.
The session concluded with consideration of proposals to make the price control system more transparent, effective, and citizen-friendly, and clear instructions were issued to relevant officials to curb inflation and further strengthen public confidence.
