VEHARI, Jan 03 (APP):Two suspected drug peddlers were injured in an alleged encounter with Karmpur police near Pul Sahoo during a checkpoint operation.
Police said they were checking a suspicious mini van (Mazda) when three armed suspects in another vehicle opened fire on the police party. The police took cover and returned fire in self-defence.
During the exchange, two suspects were injured by firing from their own accomplices, while the remaining suspects fled, leaving the injured behind.
The injured suspects were identified as Mohsin, son of Amir Bakhsh, and Ali, son of Arshad, residents of Jhang. During further search, police recovered 145 kilograms of narcotics from the mini Mazda.
Police took the vehicle and the recovered drugs into custody. The injured suspects were shifted to hospital on the directions of DSP Chaudhry Saeed Sial and SHO Karmpur Shehzad Amin.
Police have launched a search operation to arrest the fleeing suspects.
