Court awards two life sentences to Adil Raja & others in digital terrorism case

ISLAMABAD, Jan 02 (APP):An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday announced two life sentences to Adil Raja and other accused in the case of digital terrorism against state institutions in May 9.
The hearing of the case of digital terrorism against state institutions was held in the Anti-Terrorism Court Islamabad, in which ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra delivered the verdict reserved after the trial was completed some time ago.
The court sentenced Adil Raja, Haider Mehdi and Wajahat Saeed to two life sentences each, while Sabir Shakir and Moeed Pirzada were also sentenced to two life sentences each. The court also sentenced the accused to a total of 35 years in prison under other provisions. The accused were also sentenced to a total fine of Rs1.5 million.
During the trial, a total of 24 witnesses were presented by the prosecution in the court, where the court completed the trial in the absence of the accused on the request of the prosecution. Raja Naveed Hussain Kiani appeared in court on behalf of the prosecution.
The court sentenced Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada and Syed Akbar Hussain to life imprisonment in the Aabpara police station case. Shaheen Sehbai, Haider Mehdi and Wajahat Saeed were sentenced in the Ramna police station case.
Gulfam Ashraf Goraia Advocate appeared in court on behalf of the accused during the hearing. It should be noted that Gulfam Goraia Advocate was appointed as the lawyer of the accused by the court. According to the anti-terrorism laws, the trial can be held in the absence of the accused.
