Six major roads declared cart-free; Commissioner orders strict enforcement

FAISALABAD, Jan 01 (APP):Six major roads of Faisalabad were declared cart-free and the Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar has ordered strict enforcement of this initiative.
Chairing a meeting, the commissioner decided to intensify enforcement on D-Ground, Satiana Road, Susan Road, Sargodha Road, Sheikhupura Road and Jaranwala Road to ensure 100 percent removal of encroachments by pushcarts.
He directed the Municipal Corporation’s motorbike squads, Traffic Police and PERA Force to conduct joint monitoring and action. Motorcycle carts operating on these roads must face strict action, he added.
He said that only designated model cart bazaars would operate, with no tolerance for carts on the declared roads.
The commissioner also directed the concerned departments to fast-track ongoing works on 40 city roads including installation of streetlights, patchwork, curb stone painting and lane marking.
He reviewed progress on the repair and rehabilitation of 10 roads spanning 20.48 kilometers under the Highways Department and received a briefing that asphalt laying would begin after cold milling, followed by lane marking and curb stone painting. He instructed the teams to utilize night hours to ensure timely completion.
Raja Jahangir Anwar assigned four monitoring officers from the Commissioner’s Office to continue resolving municipal complaints within their respective towns and appreciated Parks & Horticulture Authority (PHA) for completing recreational facilities in 13 out of 25 city parks during the first phase.
He directed the authority to promptly equip the remaining 12 parks with facilities, establish community management committees, ensure availability of waste bins in every park and maintain daily cleanliness.
The meeting also reviewed PHA-led wall painting and beautification of bridges across the city.
Managing Director WASA Saqib Raza informed the meeting that sidewalk drains had been covered at 1,695 locations on 15 roads and set a deadline of January 20 to achieve 100 percent coverage on Jhang Road, Sargodha Road and Narwala Road in the next phase.
The commissioner further directed activation of district inspection teams at Tehsil level to identify and resolve public issues. He assigned the task to Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters.
Senior officers of the divisional administration, representatives of municipal departments, PHA, WASA, highways officials and others attended the meeting.
