MULTAN, Jan 01 (APP):Police claimed to have arrested an armed suspect in an injured condition following an encounter near Basti Gilan Wali, within the jurisdiction of Cantt Police Station, late last night.
According to a police spokesperson, the incident occurred on December 31, 2025, when a police party was conducting routine patrolling, crime checking, and picketing in the area. During the operation, three suspicious individuals riding a motorcycle approached the police checkpoint. When signalled to stop, the suspects dismounted and allegedly opened direct fire on the police party with intent to kill.
Police officials took cover behind their vehicle and, in the exercise of self-defence, fired aerial shots. After the exchange of fire ended, one suspect was found lying injured on the ground, reportedly as a result of firing by his own accomplices. A pistol was recovered from his possession, while the remaining two suspects managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
The injured suspect was identified as Muzammil Hussain, son of Irshad Hussain, a resident of Muzaffarabad, Multan. Senior police officers were informed immediately, and a blockade was imposed in the surrounding areas to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The injured man was shifted to Nishtar Hospital for medical treatment. During initial investigation, he was found to be a wanted accused in FIR No. 3116/25 registered at Cantt Police Station.
