ISLAMABAD, Dec 31 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari has extended warm greetings and sincere congratulations to President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and the people of Cuba on the occasion of the Triumph of the Revolution Day, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties.
In his message, issued by the Presidency on the occasion, the president said Pakistan and Cuba share a long-standing relationship rooted in friendship and cooperation, particularly tested during times of hardship. He recalled Cuba’s extraordinary humanitarian assistance following Pakistan’s devastating 2005 earthquake, when Havana dispatched more than 2,400 physicians, nurses and paramedical staff and established 32 field hospitals in the worst-hit areas.
The president said the Cuban support during that critical period left a lasting impression on the people of Pakistan and continues to be remembered with deep gratitude.
President Zardari noted that this selfless assistance marked a renewed chapter in bilateral relations, leading to closer engagement between the two countries and the subsequent restoration of resident diplomatic missions in Islamabad and Havana.
Reflecting on seven decades of diplomatic relations, he expressed confidence that Pakistan and Cuba could further expand cooperation and strengthen people-to-people contacts to bring the two societies closer.
The president wished the people of Cuba continued peace, prosperity and progress, and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to further enhance the bonds of friendship between the two nations.
