DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Dec 31 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday visited Dera Ismail Khan to offer condolences to the families and colleagues of martyrs of Dera Police and Pakistan Army, reiterating the state’s resolve to continue the fight against terrorism without compromise.
The governor visited Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines to condole with the heirs of Shaheed ASI Gul Aslam, Shaheed constable driver Sakhi Jan, and Shaheed constable Muhammad Rafiq. He met with the bereaved families and fellow officers, offered Fateha, and prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and patience for their families.
On his arrival, Regional Police Officer Ashfaq Anwar and District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada received the governor. A guard of honour was presented, while officials briefed him on the assistance being provided to the families of the martyrs and injured personnel. Governor Kundi also laid a floral wreath at the Dera Ismail Khan police martyrs’ memorial and paid homage.
On this occasion, while talking to media, the governor said his visit aimed to salute the martyrs of his homeland, including Major Adeel Zaman Shaheed, who laid down his life in Bajaur, and the three brave policemen who embraced martyrdom in Pinyala for the sake of peace. He said Pakistan’s security institutions were making unmatched sacrifices and fighting terrorists with courage and determination.
He stated that terrorists deserve no concessions, adding that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took pride in their police and armed forces. The governor remarked that KP Police ranks among the forces worldwide that have rendered the highest sacrifices in the war against terrorism.
Governor Kundi alleged that Afghan soil is being used by India and Israel against Pakistan, adding that the issue was taken up before the Afghan authorities but they did not take serious steps yet.
He said Afghan nationals are respected, but they must enter Pakistan through legal and documented channels, while illegal immigrants should return to their country.
Reiterating the government’s position, he said there would be no negotiations with those who refuse to accept the Constitution and law and take up arms against the state. “If our armed forces can defeat a much larger enemy within couple of days, then dealing with these terrorists is no challenge for state institutions,” he asserted.
Replying to a question, Governor Kundi said the release of any convicted person could only come through the courts and not through negotiations. However, he added, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and offered talks on the and Charter of Economy and Charter of Democracy which were declined by PTI.
Commenting on development of Dera Ismail Khan, he said major projects including the Chashma Lift Canal and an international airport were being established for the district. He added that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had announced the establishment of first ever kidney hospital in the district Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), with a team expected to visit soon to finalize the site. A Danish School has also been announced by the prime minister and will be included in the upcoming PSDP.
Responding to another question about electricity issues, the governor said the Pakistan Peoples Party believed that the power distribution companies should be handed over to the provinces. He pointed out that around 1,000 posts in WAPDA are vacant, increasing the burden on existing staff and creating administrative challenges.
