RAWALPINDI, Dec 31 (APP):On the instructions of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani, Rawalpindi Police have finalised a comprehensive security plan to ensure public safety and curb aerial firing, fireworks and one-wheeling on the eve of the New Year, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.
More than 5,000 police officers will be deployed across the city, including over 850 personnel assigned to traffic management. At least 70 special pickets have been established at key locations to prevent one-wheeling, while additional pickets have been set up in the limits of all police stations to deter aerial firing and fireworks.
A complete ban on aerial firing, fireworks and one-wheeling has been imposed, and strict legal action will be taken against violators, the spokesman said, adding that cases would be registered under terrorism provisions against those found involved in aerial firing.
The Dolphin Force, security squads and police station mobile units will remain on continuous duty throughout the night, he said.
Effective security arrangements have also been put in place for worship services of the Christian community.
“All possible measures are being taken to ensure foolproof security,” the spokesman said, adding that the protection of life and property of citizens and the enforcement of law would be ensured at all costs.
